Rowling Delves into U.S. Magical Congress

For those of us in the United States, we were kind of disappointed to know that everything in the Potter world took place, more or less, in England. ‘But why aren’t there any wizards and witches in the US!’ we cried. Well, our worries are over. There is in fact a magical community in the United States. If you haven’t seen the trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it’s set in New York City!

Recently, J.K. Rowling penned an essay,‘The Magical Congress of the United States of America’ on Pottermore! Hyphenated to MACUSA, the essay gives it an entire backstory and acts as a preface to the upcoming film.

According to CBS8, Rowling’s essay is “the third and final instalment in a collection of new original writing by J.K. Rowling entitled ‘Magic in North America’, was published on today.”

CBS8 also said

The new writing reveals how MACUSA was formed and tracks the odyssey of its various headquarters as it moved from an enchanted edifice in the Appalachian Mountains to Williamsburg, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Washington, D.C.; and, finally, to New York City, where it was magically modified to be hidden from No-Majs (the American term for Muggles).

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for these essays! Finally, there’s a chance I could be descended from a witch or wizard!

Catch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in theaters November 18th.
