Usually when you imagine where an author does most of her writing, you probably think of a quiet home office or the corner of a small cafe, but for one woman, inspiration struck in… an auto shop waiting room.

Amy Daws, self-published romance author, was stuck with a horrible case of writer’s block until she got her tires changed one day at Tires Tires Tires in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  As she sat enjoying the complimentary coffee and cookies and the comfortable chairs in the waiting room, she was struck with inspiration that allowed her to churn out 5,000 words in one sitting.

Soon she was taking friends’ and family members’ cars in for oil changes in order to find any excuse to return to the store. Eventually, she ran out of cars, but luckily the manager heard about Daw’s predicament and invited her to spend as much time in the shop’s waiting room as she wanted. In fact, the staff even reserved a seat for her and declared her their official writer in residence on Facebook

“I felt like JK Rowling waltzing into her favorite coffee shop post-Harry Potter series!” Daws raves on her website.

Tires Tires Tires has also been Daw’s source of inspiration for an entirely new book. Wait With Me will be released next month on April 5th, and is the story of a romance author who falls in love with a mechanic after repeatedly sneaking into the waiting room of a tire shop. The staff of the real-life store were so pleased, they even let her do the cover shoot for the book in the shop’s garage.
