The Batman films have been one of the most anticipated reboots of the 2020s, and we finally have a trailer featuring our new Batman. Ex-vampire Robert Pattinson was revealed as the next Batman in late 2019, but the 2020 pandemic led to multiple pauses in production. Two years after the official announcement, we have our sneak peek into Pattinson’s Batman in The Batman: The Bat and The Cat.
The release of The Bat and The Cat falls five years after Batman’s last live-action appearance in 2017’s Justice League (unless you count The Lego Movie that followed the same year). The Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix earned both accolades and criticism in 2019. However, Batman’s most recent solo films were Christopher Nolan’s 2005-2012 trilogy starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. The Bat and The Cat welcome Pattinson in his first appearance as Batman, along with familiar faces like Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Ferrell as Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Pattinson joins the ranks of many successful actors who have taken on this iconic role. These ranks include the likes of Michael Keaton, George Clooney, and, most recently, Ben Affleck. After completing his role of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga in 2012, Pattinson moved on to smaller indie films the took him out of the Hollywood spotlight. He recently starred in Tenet (released last year) and The Devil All the Time (released on Netflix.) It will be exciting to watch Pattinson’s Batman develop as he takes on this new role. Who knows? His rendition could land him an Oscar.
Be sure to catch The Batman: The Bat and The Cat in theaters on March 4, 2022. Until then, click here to watch all of the Batman films in order from the beginning.
