Here’s something you probably didn’t expect: the CW’s Riverdale will bring together the magic of Broadway and the terror of Stephen King with an upcoming episode centered around a production of Carrie: The Musical.
With eleven songs, the episode will center around a documentary Jughead Jones is filming about the high school production. Described as a “dark-yet-catchy cautionary tale exploring the gritty realities of small-town high school life,” the musical will definitely be a night to remember, which, incidentally, is also the name of the episode.
The musical itself, which in-episode is directed by Kevin Keller, will be a mix of the 1974 King novel, Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation, the 1988 Broadway production, the 2012 Off-Broadway revival, and Kimberly Peirce’s 2013 film remake. Cheryl Blossom leads the cast as Carrie White, while Veronica Lodge will play antagonist Chris Hargensen. Betty Cooper and Archie Andrews star as golden couple Sue Snell and Tommy Ross.
The episode will air on April 18th at 8 pm on the CW, so Stephen King and Riverdale fans should be sure to mark their calendars!
