Relax, George R.R. Martin Said 20 Dead TV Characters Are Still Alive in His Books

According to Metro, amongst the 30 million viewers of the current season of Game of Thrones, author George R.R. Martin is not one of them.

In between working for spin-offs, completing the next installment of A Song of Fire and Ice as well as going on book tours, the 68-year-old author just doesn’t have the time and availability to stay in tune with a television series, even if the storyline is based on his efforts. As this season’s Game of Thrones comes to an end on Sunday, August 27, Martin will have plenty of binge-watching to do if he ever intends on catching up.

While Martin is still writing the penultimate book to his series, The Winds of Winter, HBO’s screenwriters have moved ahead with the story since Season 6 and killed off 20 characters that are still alive in Martin’s universe.

“The book series and TV adaptation go their separate ways,” Martin informed Metro. “On the screen characters are killed right and left. About twenty of them have died already, which are quite alive to me and will appear in a new book.”
