Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram Book Club Success

Reese Witherspoon, America’s sweetheart and beloved actress, started a book club on her Instagram. Likened to Oprah’s Book Club, Witherspoon’s is wildly successful. Her approach of using social media to encourage people to read is effective. With over 7.4 million followers on Instagram, it’s no wonder the books she recommends become so popular! People love her! 


In her Instragram posts, she uses the hashtag, #RWBookClub to mark the books she wants people to add to their list. According to E! Online, Witherspoon has “managed to parlay those on-page accomplishments into huge movie milestones.” 


Witherspoon and producer, Bruna Papandrea, started a company, Pacific Standard. Their goal is to feature dynamic women and Witherspoon’s recommendations started with Wild. The movie was based on the book of the same name by Cheryl Strayed. Witherspoon played Cheryl in the movie who makes a 1,000 mile-plus trek across the Pacific Coast Trail. Witherspoon even came across Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn too, and was a producer for the film! 


Witherspoon has recommended dozens of titles on her Instagram page.

Reese has now built a few book-to-screen partnerships, with the likes of Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman as well as…Jean-Marc Vallée joining her for several different projects, including the upcoming Big Little Lies, Luckiest Girl Alive and Truly Madly Guilty, adaptations from the same author. She’s also set to turn All Is Not Forgotten, about an assault in an affluent Connecticut town, into an onscreen masterpiece.


It was also reported by GalleyCat that Witherspoon inked a deal with Touchstone! She’s an actress, producer, reader and now writer. Witherspoon will write a lifestyle book inspired by the cultures of the American South.
