Since Harry received his acceptance letter to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we’ve been waiting for a letter of our own.
Our time has finally come.
The Bothwell School of Witchcraft will open at Herstmonceux Castle to all Harry Potter fans this August! The magical experience consists of a three-night stay where guests will be sorted into houses, have the opportunity to explore the grounds, take lessons, and attend banquets. They will also be provided with robes and a wand, to really understand what it feels like to study at a wizardry school like Hogwarts. And it will all take place in an actual 15th-century castle in East Sussex.

Not only will guests get to live in the castle; a story will unfold throughout their stay at Bothwell as well. Each person will be given a role to play and act out over the three days, solving a mystery by interacting with other participants as well as their surroundings. Essentially, a live-action role-playing game.
The founders of the project, Stuart Munnich and Cameron Readman, came up with the idea of Bothwell School of Witchcraft together. They launched a Kickstarter campaign in March of this year, hoping to reach their goal of 25,500 pounds. Instead, they raised over 75,000 pounds from less than 200 backers!
While there have been other similar experiences, like the College of Wizardry in Poland and New World Magischola in the U.S., having a school that’s actually set in Britain will make it a more realistic experience for fans. Don’t worry if you can’t make it this year though. Because of the incredible response from backers, Bothwell School of Witchcraft will definitely be making a return in coming years!
