Pride and Prejudice is a classic novel of manners and Regency Era society, particularly as it involves social class, love, and the entanglement of both. Jane Austen’s masterpiece has found an ever-growing contemporary readership, inspiring others, such as Seth Grahame-Smith, to create their own work in homage. Grahame-Smith’s parodic novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, has become such a huge hit there is a much-anticipated movie in the works, with Lily James and Sam Riley headlining as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
Other adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, such as the 1995 miniseries starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, are so well-loved we wonder how the new version will hold up. Of course, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies isn’t the first film to reimagine a classic character as a protector against legendary creatures. We just hope this adaptation turns out better than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Though the film is slated for release in early 2016, Lionsgate recently released a teaser trailer, which promises huge laughs (or slight terror if you’re not into zombies.) But don’t take our word for it, take a look and let us know what you think in the comments.
