Potter-Themed Refreshments at a Trendy Toronto Bar

A new, trendy bar called The Lockhart, named for the infamous Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor who used Memory Charms in order to take credit for other wizards hard work, is up and running in Toronto, Canada. The bar’s Potter appeal is only apparent to die-hard Harry Potter fans; those unfamiliar with the series would never know that their cocktails are references to the magical books.

Co-owners Matt Rocks and Paris Xerx created The Lockhart with the intention of appealing to Potter fans and non-fans alike.  “Without knowning any of the Harry Potter stuff, you already will think of this as a cool bar. You’d come here and see the stag’s head on the wall and go, ‘Wow, I love that’, but a Harry Potter fan might say ‘That’s a Patronus’,” says Xerx.

The innovative menu turns classic drinks into wizardly refreshments.  Drinks include: Tinworth Iced Tea, referencing the home-town of the Weasley’s; The Shacklebolt, named after a genuinely good, pure-blood wizard; and, the Befuddlement Brew, which you might want to sip slowly. A Butterbeer themed drink will also make an appearance with an original name. The menu includes traditionaly-named, yet tasty food, like baked brie and deep fried jalapeno mac and cheese sliders, as well as drinks referencing other famous book characters (such as Little-Red Riding Hood’s hairy nemesis).

And of course, the reference in this neon sign might make your eyes well with tears:
