This past February, 10,500 parties at libraries, bookstores, and houses around the world were filled with cloaks, broomsticks, and wands. This unique gathering wasn’t a cult meeting; it was the first annual Harry Potter Book Night, an evening where devotees of J.K. Rowling‘s novels unite to celebrate all things Potter with a variety of games and events. For the second year, organizer Bloomsbury Publishing has announced today that 2016’s event will be “A Night of Spells.”
As the name suggests, this evening will center around the various spells and enchantments cast by the wizards and witches of the Potter world: from Wingardium Leviosa to Expelliarmus. Bloomsbury released an event kit to provide some guidelines for the event and some ideas for discussions and games. Since this is a worldwide wizarding affair, though, the publisher highly suggests party hosts to come up with their own ideas based around the theme, and submit them for fans to see by using the hashtag #HarryPotterBookNight on Facebook and Twitter.
Harry Potter Book Night is set to take place on February 4th, 2016. Did you participate last year, or will you be joining the evening for the first time this coming year? Either way, there’s never been a better day to get your wand refurbished from Ollivander’s and brush up on your Patronus skills.
