Penguin Random House Wins Bid War for Obama Books

We knew that the Obamas wouldn’t stay out of the limelight for long. After a bidding war that was estimated to be in the “tens of millions,” publisher Penguin Random House has booked a deal with the former President Obama and former First Lady, Michelle Obama, for two upcoming books.

According to NPR, Penguin’s CEO stated:

“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same. Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.”

A “significant portion” of the proceeds from the books will be donated to charity and Penguin will donate over 1 million books in the Obamas’ name to First Book.
