On Sunday night, the actress, producer, and comedian Aubrey Plaza announced via Twitter that she has co-written a children’s book with “creative partner” Dan Murphy. The book is titled The Legend of the Christmas Witch and is illustrated by Julia Iredale.
According to Penguin Random House, Plaza’s story follows the long-lost sister of Santa Claus, a witch named Kristtōrn. Kristtōrn’s brother (Santa) was torn away from her when they were children. She was raised as a single child by a witch in the woods. Both Kristtōrn’s magical powers and temper grew as she got older. She is determined to find the brother she lost and sets out on a dangerous journey across the sea. However, she finds a “deep-seated fear of her powers and a confrontation that would leave the fate of Christmas hanging in the balance.” Krisstōrn’s story is a Christmas legend that has never been told before.

Staying true to the theme of her upcoming book, Plaza is dressed in her own witchy attire in the video Tweet announcing the book: a pointed black hat and a black cloak. As an eerie version of the carol “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” plays in the background, Plaza reveals she’s also narrating the story for the audiobook version of The Legend of the Christmas Witch. Right before the short video ends, Plaza proceeds to don a pair of studio headphones and laugh maniacally into the microphone, giving readers (and listeners) a glimpse into what they might expect from her story.
Fans of Plaza perhaps best know her from the sitcom Parks and Recreation with Amy Poehler, Rob Lowe, Christ Pratt, and Nick Offerman. Plaza starred as the sarcastic, blunt, and gothic April Ludgate, who never failed to speak what was truly on her mind, but also secretly had a heart of gold. Plaza also starred in Legion and voiced Princess Eska in The Legend of Korra among other roles.
Plaza’s book will be released on October 12, 2021. Pre-order your copy here!
