On Tuesday, Starz announced that Outlander will return for its sixth season in early 2022. This season will follow the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
According to Entertainment Weekly, season six will have eight episodes, which includes a ninety-minute season premiere. The EW article provided a statement from Matthew B. Roberts, one of the executive producers for Outlander, who said,
“Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible.”
However, Roberts said that season seven will be extended, with sixteen episodes instead of twelve.
Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will return to their featured roles as Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser, respectively. Sophie Skelton (Brianna Randall Fraser), John Bell (Young Ian Murray), and Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) will also return to the show.
Aside from the season six update, Starz also released a few photos from the Outlander set, which you can view below.
Season six of Outlander will follow Jamie and Claire as they experience life in colonial America on the eve of the Revolution.
