Book Con is the annual convention held each year in New York that celebrates books and authors like nowhere else. Fans can meet and get their books signed by the biggest authors in the business, they can meet other bookworms, check out the latest releases and advance copies of upcoming releases from publishers great and small, and generally nerd out to their heart’s content.
This year, Bookstr went to Book Con, and, as you can imagine, it was VERY exciting. Book lovers descended upon the Javit’s Center in Manhattan to check out panels featuring their favorite authors, stock up on amazing literary merch, grab advance copies of upcoming titles, and meet other likeminded fans.
Bookstr was delighted to attend this year! One highlight was the panel on the amazing new poetry and short story anthology Disconnected, edited by Michelle Halket, which features work by some of the world’s leading Instagram poets including Amanda Lovelace and Nikita Gill. Bookstr are huge fans of all the contributors and it was fascinating to hear how the book was assembled. Editor Halket gathered eleven contributors, each of whom wrote three poems. Each poet was then assigned three poems by another poet and was instructed to write a short story based on one of the poems they were assigned. This amazing concept explores the theme of connection in a totally new and interesting way, and the book is also dotted with lovely line drawings that enhance the reading experience.
BookCon also yielded incredibly opportunities to have your books signed by some of the hottest authors around such as Hank Green and Angie Thomas.
Check out these dedicated cosplayers! We also snapped a few pictures of booths, banners and anything else that caught our eye!
