It really is testament to the loyalty of ‘Game of Thrones’ fans that the hit show set a new ratings record with Sunday’s episode, despite the fact that hackers leaked the episode days in advance.
‘Spoils of War’ attracted 10.2 million viewers, which broke the record set just a few weeks ago by the ‘Game of Thrones’ season premiere.

HBO are going through a fairly trying time at present after a hacker, identified only as Mr. Smith, stole data and released the episode online last week. Other HBO shows such as ‘Room 104’ and ‘Ballers’ have suffered episode leaks and the hacker is now demanding millions of dollars in ransom.

Mr. Smith said in a five-minute video letter that they would only deal directly with Richard Plepler, the HBO C.E.O. Smith advised HBO they have three days to pay the ransom before entire TV shows and personal data will be released.
While we have no idea how this case will progress, we’re happy (though not at all surprised) to see ‘Game of Thrones’ fans remaining loyal to the show, and waiting until it’s official release date to watch it.
