Yup- you are reading the headline correctly: George R.R. Martin’s next edition to the Game of Thrones series, ‘The Winds of Winter’, should be released in early 2017. Ok, so nothing is set in stone, but this is still exciting news. The sixth book in the epic series is reportedly being proofread (which, hopefully, takes much less time than writing it).
However, other reports point out that Martin has continued to state that he is “hundreds of pages away from finishing ‘The Winds of Winter’. GoT fans can hardly take such flip-flopping news! The fifth book in the series, ‘A Dance with Dragons’, came out in 2011. The length it has taken for ‘The Winds of Winter’ to be completed is, in part due to its length (it is supposedly the longest book in the series), but it has been postponed many times.
Rumors have been flying around the latest installment. Some believe that Martin has been working on both the 6th and 7th book, at the same time! Wouldn’t that be a lovely surprise? We don’t quite believe this theory…
Well, there it is. The news that seems less like news and more like fan-based wishful thinking.
