Warner Bros. is reportedly developing an animated film that will retell the story of The Wizard of Oz, from the perspective of Dorothy’s dog, Toto, based on a children’s book.

Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz, by Michael Morpurgo and illustrated by Emma Chichester Clark, was released in September 2017. It features an older Toto telling the story of his adventures in Oz.
The book is of course based on L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), better known to modern audiences through the 1939 film starring Judy Garland.
Mark Burton is expected to write the screenplay. No director is yet attached to the project.
This is certainly a new spin on the oft-lamented trend of remakes in recent years. If they want to redo every movie to make it about the dog… Well, I won’t be complaining.
