Although Stephen King is most known for his horror books, some of his greatest stories step outside of the genre, including The Green Mile, The Body, and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. With a new crime novel, Later, to be released in 2021, it will be interesting to see if it will reach or exceed expectations.
In true Stephen King fashion, Later is about a boy, Jamie Conklin, who has a supernatural ability and must stop a killer who threatens to attack from beyond the grave. The tagline reads: “Only the dead have no secrets,” and brings to mind many motifs of King’s work, including coming of age/loss of innocence combined with a supernatural evil.
It does sound like a lot of Stephen King’s previous work, but knowing him, there will be something unique to draw audiences in. “Later is a beautiful story about growing up and facing your demons — whether they’re metaphorical or (as sometimes happens when you’re in a Stephen King novel) the real thing.” “It’s terrifying, tender, heartbreaking and honest, and we’re so excited to bring it to readers.”
The book will be published by Hard Case Crime, who released previous King novels, Joyland and The Colorado Kid.
