New Photos of HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ Cast Released

As more news and images about House of the Dragon emerge, the excitement and anticipation of returning to Westeros continues to build! Three new photos from the set of HBO’s upcoming series were released Wednesday morning.

One image features Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy in conversation. Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) will play Prince Daemon Targaryen. D’Arcy (Truth Seekers, Misbehaviour) is cast as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The second photo shows Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) and Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man) as their characters Alicent Hightower and Otto Hightower, respectively.

Steve Toussaint (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) is depicted as Lord Corlys Velaryon in the third photo. Velaryon is also known as the Sea Snake and will eventually become Hand of the Queen to Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons, as mentioned in Deadline.

According to Variety, George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are the co-creators. In addition to Martin and Condal, the show’s executive producers include Miguel Sapochnik, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, and Ron Schmidt. Sapochnik directed the Game of Thrones episodes “Battle of the Bastards” (season six, episode nine) and “The Long Night” (season eight, episode three). The composer of the Game of Thrones soundtracks, Ramin Djawadi, will create the music for the show as well.

House of the Dragon is based off Martin’s book Fire & Blood, a comprehensive and in-depth history about the Targaryen dynasty 300 years before the events featured in the Game of Thrones television show and the A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

Currently, House of the Dragon is expected to air in 2022. Further details about the show can be found on HBO‘s website.
