New Harry Potter Books Replace J. K. Rowling With…College Humor?

The Harry Potter franchise is probably one of the biggest in the world with a huge fandom to boot. So I could understand how the interweb can be an overwhelming place when it comes to details about the magical series. Who said what? Who died how? But in this case, who dated who is the more appropriate question.

Sometimes spells and charms can’t keep everything away, including falsities and inaccuracies about the characters and novels. This is exactly what happened to good ol’ Bloomsbury when they released the 20th Anniversary Edition of the Philosopher’s Stone. And it all stemmed from a fake tweet/joke by the online site College Humor pretending to be J. K. Rowling.

Technology these days is something else because I really would’ve thought that was J. K. Rowling. Plus, what a lovely couple, am I right? The plethora of Harry Potter facts surrounding the series seems endless, so it’s easy to imagine its likelihood. However, Bloomsbury fell into the cyberspace trap when they included this tidbit into the fun fact section in the back of the 20th Anniversary book.

There it is, in all its inaccurate glory. Seems harmless to me. However, an eager fan tweeted Rowling to find the truth and she had a pretty solid response: it’s fake. Well, there goes that.

Rowling could really do whatever she wants: add facts and change ’em. Yet I suppose she just couldn’t picture this sprouting romance.
