Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale has made history with its first season winning eight Emmy’s including Outstanding Drama Series. Season two promises to move away from the book and explore the dystopia in a whole new light, including introducing a new character to be played by Sydney Sweeney.
Season two will explore Offred’s pregnancy and what she will do to try and save her baby from the fate of the Gilead. The introduction of Sydney Sweeney will happen in the fifth episode of season two as fifteen-year-old Eden. She will be a firm believer in the Gilead who wishes to become a Commander’s wife and will create danger for those around her.
Although the show will be continuing beyond Margaret Atwood’s work, Bruce Miller, the showrunner says, “The second season, really a lot of the stuff we’re doing is still an extrapolation of that world — the colonies, what life is like for refugees and what happens if a handmaid tries to run away. All of those things from Margaret Atwood’s world are still very much a part of our world.” I should hope so!
Season two of The Handmaid’s Tale will premiere on Hulu in April 2018.
