On July 31, 2020, an adaptation of Get Even (DGM) (the first in series written by Gretchen McNeil that was published back in 2014) dropped and y’all I was shook. I only watched it recently and I think more people need to talk about it.
The books, and subsequently the show, follow a group of four girls; Kitty Wei, Bree Deringer, Margot Mejia and Olivia Hays who aren’t involved in each other’s lives besides being in a secret society called DGM which stands for Don’t Get Mad. This anonymous society is determined to expose bullies and wrongdoings in their prestigious school. When someone put their calling card into a dead student’s hand they need to figure out who’s trying to frame them for murder and who the actual killer is.
Every episode moves the mystery along expertly and will have you constantly guessing who the true criminal could be, as DGM tries to clear their name. We learn more about the girls and watch them go from partners to genuine friends. Its sweet, heartwarming and funny nature is balanced with the more serious aspects of the show.
Unfortunately, even with the great reception the first season has received there isn’t any news on a second season just yet. But if a new season were to be green-lit it would most likely be based on the second book in the series, ‘Get Dirty’ (DGM) since the first season followed the original book. If you are a fan like I am, let’s all collectively pray. And if you haven’t checked this show out or the books, I highly recommend that you do. You won’t be disappointed.
