It is about time we have the release date for the long awaited adaptation LeSean Thomas’s Cannon Busters. The news came this past Sunday at the Los Angeles Anime Expo from Netflix’s sci-fi/fantasy twitter account stating that the show would air August 15, just in time for a weekend long binge!
Thomas first published the series in 2005, and it centers itself around an unlikely trio’s adventures: a high-end friendship droid, a discarded maintenance robot, and a deadly fugitive. Together, the three embark on a deadly adventure to find the heir to the kingdom. If it sounds exciting, that’s because it is very exciting and jam packed with action that will leave you wanting more. The release date leaves viewers with just over a month to get their hands on a copy before they binge the next best thing to come from Netflix.

The road to Netflix for Cannon Busters was long. After being published in 2005, Thomas created a kickstarter to make it into a feature in 2014. It was announced in 2017 that it would be a series on Netflix, which was pushed back to 2018 before being shelved. Fourteen years after publication, we will finally get to see Thomas’s work grace our screens! I already have an alert set, how about you?
