I had a brief but intense My Chemical Romance phase. I had a t-shirt, and the special edition Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge album. It was a pretty cool time, one I look back on fondly. Since MCR (that’s what us fans call them, no big deal) disbanded (broken heart emoji), I am glad to see a different sort of success come to frontman Gerard Way, in the form of his graphic novel The Umbrella Academy, which is being adapted for Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy was originally published in 2007 and is illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The original pilot script was written by Jeremy Slater, and Fargo producer Steve Blackman will run the show alongside Way, who is on board as executive producer.
The story follows a dysfunctional family of superheroes, who work together to solve the mystery of their father’s death. Ellen Page will play Vanya, the only member of the family without powers. Aw.
The Umbrella Academy graphic novels are a trilogy, comprised of Apocalypse Suite, Dallas, and Hotel Oblivion. Way’s writing endeavors came after my brief love affair with the band had fizzled out, and so I confess, I never read the series. However, having researched it for this article it, it looks pretty cool and I’m looking forward to the series. Good for Gerard. I’m happy for him.
