The new Netflix show, Bridgerton, is almost set to premiere! This is the first show produced by ShondaLand productions out of the deal she has for the streaming service. Based on the romance series by Julia Quinn, it’s being described as Gossip Girl meets Downtown Abbey.
Sounds like an awesome mash up, so this show is sure to be great!

Bridgerton is set in the 1800s, but it has racially diverse interpretation. It chronicles the period after King George the Third’s rule, where African Americans hold titles and power equal to their white counterparts.
According to Adjoa Andoh, who portrays Lady Danbury, the show has a bit more zing than Downtown Abbey does, which I’m sure is in reference to the diversity of the cast. Andoh also went on to say how excited she is to work for Shondaland. The other actors on the show, Reje-Jean Page, Ruby Barker, Marina Thompson, and Golda Roshevuel, also shared their excitement with ShondaLand and how they admire how Rhimes pushes for diversity on screen. It’s amazing how much work Rhimes has already done with her other shows, Greys Anatomy and Scandal, and the diversity on those shows on ABC. Now she’s bringing this amazing flair to Netflix.

The vocalist legend, Julie Andrews, is also apart of the series, which is huge. She will be lending her voice to Lady Whistledown’s gossip sheet. So she’s like the gossip girl of Bridgerton. The cast is over the moon with her being a part in the project, but of course if royals of the show were doing what they were supposed to do, Lady Whistledown wouldn’t have anything to report. The show is hot and steamy, like most of ShondaLand’s shows, and it sounds like it’s going to be amazing.
Bridgerton starts streaming on Netflix on Christmas Day.
