The Hugo Award winning SFF trilogy The Broken Earth by N.K. Jemisin is being adapted for the big screen by Sony Pictures Entertainment!
After a bidding battle, TriStar pictures emerged victorious with a seven-figure deal for the rights of the novels. According to Deadline, N. K. Jemisin will adapt the books herself in partnership with Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures.
The Broken Earth trilogy, which starts with The Fifth Season, is set in an apocalyptic future in the continent called the Stillness. The earth is ravaged by massive periodic natural disasters known as Seasons. This events last for generations and completely reshape the Earth every time. Survivors emerge from the Comms they huddled during the Seasons and work to rebuild civilization before the next event with the help of the “orogenes,” individuals who can draw incredible magical power from reservoirs of the Earth.
VP Creative Production Shary Shirazi and creative executive Rikki Jarrett are overseeing the project for TriStar Pictures. There is not yet a set date for the release of the adaptation, but we hope we can see this epic story soon!
