ViacomCBS’ MTV Entertainment Group has announced that it will be relaunching MTV Books in partnership with Simon & Schuster. Back in November, ViacomCBS announced that it would be selling Simon & Schuster to Penguin Random House, but that transaction has not yet closed, so it is the perfect time to get one last venture in together.
At the head of the relaunch will be children’s book author and editor, Christian Trimmer, who is a major voice in and known face of the YA industry. Before this announcement, he has been an editorial director at Macmillan, and before that, he worked for Disney Publishing Worldwide, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, and Simon & Schuster. All of this amounts to over fifteen years of experience all at major publishing firms.
Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer at MTV Entertainment Group said in a statement:
With the relaunch of MTV Books, we have the opportunity to uncover new, cutting-edge voices and fast track their stories into series and TV movies. Christian has a keen eye for identifying some of the most pioneering authors of this generation and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.
Trimmer also said in a statement:
I could not be more excited to bring my skills as a book publisher and editor to MTV Entertainment. Chris [McCarthy] and Nina [L. Diaz] have built an incredible team, and I look forward to working with them and Meghan [Hooper] to develop stories that surprise and delight audiences.
With MTV Books having published major works including Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton, and Me Since You by Laura Wiess, I am very curious to see what comes out of this MTV Books revival.
