Movie Trailer: Gillian Flynns Dark Places is Exactly That

The trailer for Dark Places, based on Gillian Flynn’s bestselling mystery novel of the same name, has been released. Gilles Paquet-Brenner directs Charlize Theron in the dark story of a woman who survives a strange satanic massacre. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Tye Sheridan. Check it out below!

Flynn’s Dark Places tells the story of Libby Day, who escapes a massacre in a small Kansas town. Her mother and sisters are killed during what appears to be a satanic ritual, and her brother is sent to jail for the crime. In typical Flynn fashion, however, all is not as it seems. Years later, Libby meets investigators that are convinced of her brother’s innocence. Together, they re-examine the case and discover troubling new facts and long-buried memories that cast doubt regarding her brother’s guilt.

This isn’t the first time that one of Gillian Flynn’s novels has been adapted for the big screen. Her monster hit Gone Girl was made into a film last year, which was directed by David Fincher and starred Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Even Flynn, herself, wrote the screenplay. Gone Girl is Flynn’s third novel; Dark Places is her second.

The film hits theaters on August 7, but it’s available on DIRECTV right now as part of a 30-day pre-release special.
