Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, is now an author with her debut children’s book that will be published on June 8th. The Bench, which was inspired by her husband, Prince Harry, and son, Archie. The book will show the special bond between a father and son as seen from a mother’s eyes.
In a statement, the Duchess of Sussex said,
“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born. That poem became this story.”
The picture book will also be illustrated by Christian Robinson, the recipient of the Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Award Honor. In regards to their partnership, The Duchess of Sussex said,
“Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special body through an inclusive lens.”
The Bench will be published by Random House Children’s Books in the U.S and simultaneously wordwide by Tundra Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House Canada. It will also be published by Puffin, an imprint of Penguin Random House Children’s UK. Meghan Markle will also narrate the audiobook edition of The Bench as well.
The Duchess concluded by saying,
“My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much at it does with mine.”
