Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Will Cast Middle-Eastern Actors

Following in the footsteps and success of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin is soon to be a live-action film! It’s not the only Disney live-action adaptation in the works. The Lion King, Mulan, Snow White, and The Little Mermaid are all on their way. Aladdin is based on the Middle Eastern folk tale The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (The Arabian Nights).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) is set to direct the film. John August (Big Fish) has written the screenplay and it is rumored that the music from the 1992 animated film will still be a part of the upcoming adaptation!

To avoid controversy stemming from films like Ghost in the Shell, The Great Wall, and Doctor Strange, which cast “white actors instead of the ethnicity indicated in their scripts/comic books [or books],” there is an open call for Middle-Eastern actors aged 18-25 for the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine!

We can’t wait for this next live-action adaptation!
