There’s no doubt about it, Frozen is one of, if not the most popular of Disney’s animated films. If you’ve worked in retail at any point since the immediately iconic Disney film dropped, you know this movie well and have prayed for its demise. Well, retail workers, your hopes and dreams have come true – Disney, Demi Lovato and Idina Menzel are being sued by international singer Jaime Ciero over Frozen‘s mega hit ‘Let it Go’.
Jaime Ciero, who I had never heard of, but who has over 1 million views on this video, has more than a bit of a case. Here’s his song Volar; if you give it a listen, you can clearly hear similarities between Ciero’s and Disney’s.
And just in case you haven’t heard this enough, here’s Frozen‘s Let It Go.
The musician confirmed his lawsuit with Digital Spy, and intends to sue Disney, Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato over the allegedly stolen song. Menzel recorded a version of the song for the film, and Lovato’s single version of the track are both under fire, as the note combinations, structures, hooks, melodies, lyrics, themes, production and textures of the Disney song have clear similarities to Ciero’s Volar.
The musician is reportedly seeking a share of the movie’s profits, which if you were unaware, is one of the highest grossing movie’s of all time, making almost $1.3 billion at the box office.
Considering Disney has announced Frozen 2 will be released in theatres on November 27th, 2019, I have a feeling they’ll sweep this one under the rug with a settlement ASAP.
