Addams Family starring Oscar Isaac

Latest ‘Addams Family’ Reboot Signs Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams

Originally a single panel cartoon series by Charles Addams, published in The New Yorker between 1938 and 1988, The Addams Family was first adapted to screen as a live action television show from 1964 to 1966 before becoming an animated series in the 1970s. The Addams Family has only grown in popularity since, with its heyday in the 90s thanks to the live action adaptations starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, and Christina Ricci. Other than a Broadway adaptation in 2009, The Addams Family has been on the down low, but MGM, who owns the film rights to the franchise, wants to bring the show back to its animated roots.

Despite the fact that the new reboot is going to be animated, Raul Julia-lookalike Oscar Isaac has officially signed on to play Gomez Addams. Julia, who died in 1994, starred as Gomez Addams in the cult classic 1991 film and the 1993 sequel.

The latest animated reboot has been in the works for a minute; Tim Burton was attached to a 3D stop-motion version back in 2010, though is not attached to the MGM reboot confirmed in 2013. Fans of Burton do have something to look forward to, with Pamela Pettler will be writing the screenplay. Pettler previously worked with Burton on 2005’s Corpse Bride! So that’s something.
