In order to preserve Dorothy’s ruby slippers, from the 1939 adaptation of L. Frank Baum‘s The Wizard of Oz, the Smithsonian museum has launched a Kickstarter campaign. With a $300,000 goal, and 29 days to go, the museum is not even halfway there.
The museum started an effort, which they call #KeepThemRuby, in order to “study and repair the leather, sequined and glass-beaded slippers, made by the MGM Studio prop department” according to The Washington Post.

The campaign rewards for donating. Some include t-shirts, tote bags, and posters for small amounts and video tours and parties for larger donations.
