Judy Blume Will Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

As if Judy Blume wasn’t amazing enough, she’s about to receive another incredible honor. According to USA Today, the American Academy of Arts and Letters is planning on giving Blume a lifetime achievement award. The E.B. White Award comes with a $10,000 prize and is awarded for “achievement in children’s literature.”

Past winners of the award include Christopher Paul Curtis in 2015 and Natalie Babbitt in 2013.

Blume is one of the most iconic children’s authors of all-time. The 79-year old has used children’s literature to touch upon serious, adult themes, such as sexuality and racism. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is viewed as one of the most seminal works of children’s literature of all-time.

The award ceremony, which will honor Paul Beatty and Elizabeth Kolbert, among others, will take place in May.
