Fans of Mad Men rejoice! Actor Jon Hamm, best known for playing the iconic character Don Draper, will be joining a star-studded cast in Good Omens, set to be released as a six-part series by Amazon Prime Video in 2019.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, co-authored by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, is a darkly hilarious tale about the end of the world, following the bungling attempts of an angel and a demon who want to save the mankind from destruction. Hamm’s character, the Angel Gabriel, makes only a small appearance in the book, but will apparently have a larger role to play in the Amazon series. According to Gaiman, he and Pratchett had already been planning a sequel when they wrote Good Omens, and had discussed making the angels more prominent in the follow-up.
Though the book was originally intended to be adapted for film in 2002, the funding fell through and the project never got off the ground. Now, fifteen years later, it looks like Good Omens is finally going to get the cinematic treatment it deserves. Hamm will be joining Michael Sheen and David Tennant to bring Gaiman and Pratchett’s wacky end-of-the-world adventure to life. And if the first on-set photos are any indication, it’s going to be a wild ride.
