John Oliver’s ‘Marlon Bundo’ Book Bounces To Number One

Last week we brought you Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President, the children’s book written by Charlotte Pence and illustrated by Karen Pence, daughter and wife of Vice President Mike Pence respectively.  The book was released this week and describes what the Vice President does at his job every day. It’s narrated by Marlon Bundo, Pence’s pet rabbit.  However, there’s a different book about this bunny that’s currently flying (or should we say hopping?) off the shelves.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo was released by Chronicle Books this past Sunday and by Tuesday had reached the number one spot on Amazon’s best-seller list.  It has already sold out and is going into a second printing.

In this book, which is the brainchild of John Oliver and was written by Jill Twiss and illustrated by E.G. Keller, Marlon Bundo tells us about his own life.  In this case, it is a very special day in his life because it is the day he falls in love with Wesley, another boy bunny, and they decide to get married. Although there are some obstacles along the way, namely a stinkbug who tells them that two male bunnies can’t marry each other, the story ultimately has a happy ending.

The audiobook version of the story, which is voiced by from Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul, has also reached number one on Audible.

Like with Pence’s book, proceeds from this book will also go to charity.  Sales will benefit AIDS United, an organization that aims to end the AIDS epidemic in the United States, and The Trevor Project, a crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline for young LGBTQ people.  Readers can also buy an ebook copy of the story directly through the websites of both of these charities.

Charlotte Pence, in an interview with Fox Business Network, said that she’s all for John Oliver’s new book. “His book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind,” she stated.  In fact, she bought a copy herself and has posted a photo of Marlon on Instagram wearing a bow tie similar to the one Marlon wears on the cover.

As Oliver himself said in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, “It’s a sweet children’s book.”
