While Jason Momoa seems to have solidified his place in Hollywood, starring as the ever-so hunky Aquaman and infamous Khal Drogo, things were not always easy for the actor. In a new interview with Instyle, Momoa reveals he struggled after his exit from Game of Thrones in 2011. The actor states that he was “completely in debt” and struggled to pay the bills for the house he shares with his wife, Lisa Bonet, and their two children.
Momoa began acting in the late ‘90s and starred in series like Baywatch: Hawaii, North Shore, and Stargate Atlantis, but really became one of Hollywood’s most recognized actors after playing Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. The actor told the magazine,
I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones. I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.
Momoa has previously talked about how following his portrayal of Khal Drogo, many people assumed he didn’t speak English and could only play strong, silent warrior roles. Luckily, Momoa’s luck turned around when he landed the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman in Justice League and later starred as the superhero in 2018’s Aquaman. Momoa is also set to reprise his role in season two of Apple TV+’s See, as well as star in Dennis Villeneuve’s upcoming film Dune. Here’s hoping Jason Momoa continues to take Hollywood by storm and continues to grace our TV and movie screens.
