Jane Austen Anthology Series Coming to The CW

The CW is creating a Jane Austen anthology series, inspired by her long list of life-changing classics, entitled Modern Austen.

“…but for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short.”
Jane Austen

The above quote by the renowned eighteenth century author, Jane Austen, echoes the refrain in every book lover’s soul. We can never get enough of a good book, and in the case of Jane Austen, for the vast body of her classics among which proudly stands Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey and many more, todays readers (and viewers) cannot seem to get enough of this nineteenth century author’s work. Countless film adaptations have graced the big screen since Austen’s fountain pen was put to paper many centuries ago, and they are again being reimagined, this time in their entirety for the small screen, and with a modern spin.

And we’re so excited for the drama!
Variety reported, “the one-hour series reimagines Austen’s novels as six modern stories. Each season is a different novel, beginning with “Pride and Prejudice,” set in contemporary San Francisco.” This is not unlike how the BBC modernized Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries in the 2010 (and still running) series, Sherlock. Written and executive produced by Eleanor Burgess, and produced by Warner Bros. Television, Modern Austen takes on the long-held tradition of breathing new life into favored classics and never letting them die.

By adapting these period books into a one-hour-long modern drama series, The CW is sure to be creating another binge-worthy platform for adoring Austen fans to cling to. Crack open your classic volumes and get prepared to watch their contents light up the small screen in an entirely new way!
