For many moons, The Old Firehouse has claimed to be the inspiration behind the wizarding world’s premiere drinking establishment, The Leaky Cauldron. However, J. K. Rowling has taken to Twitter (because of course she has) to dispel this myth. The pub’s supposed literary connection was mentioned in a local article on Devon Live.

However, Rowling was quick to somewhat sassily contradict the claim.
If you want real fantasy, go to an estate agent. Never visited this pub in my life. https://t.co/vzZcIejJVH

Yikes. You’re already a billionaire, J. K. Will you just let the little guys have their moment? Rowling attended Exeter University in the mid-1980s, and the university’s Harry Potter society has held multiple events, including banquets, at The Old Firehouse. They are understandably disappointed with the news that Rowling was not a regular.

I mean, I get that in these post-truth times, it is important for those among us with a large platform to commit to honesty. But also I don’t really think a little white lie would have gone amiss here.
