J.K. Rowling Announces Two New Fantastic Beasts Movies

Great news, Harry Potter fans: this year’s J.K. Rowling-scripted spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won’t be the last Harry Potter movie. In fact, J.K. Rowling has just announced that there will be three Fantastic Beasts movies in all!

Rowling announced the big news very unceremoniously: she revealed the plans for the sequels in a Twitter interaction with a fan. It started when a Harry Potter fan expressed excitement about the Harry Potter stage play opening in London this year:

A Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie? It sounds too good to be true – and it is, at least for now. But J.K. Rowling let the fan down easy by sharing some big news:

That’s a de facto announcement of two new movies! Until now, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them appeared to be a standalone film. Instead, it appears we’ll get a series. Fans will be waiting eagerly to learn more details about the trilogy.

The previously announced Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film was scripted by Rowling herself and stars Eddie Redmayne. You can watch the trailer for the film here and can catch the movie in theaters on November 18 of this year.
