Attention Game of Thrones fans! Season 8 has a release date. Okay, not a specific date, but the year has been announced. It’s 2019. Game of Thrones, season 8 will be released in 2019. Was that not what you were hoping for? Hey, don’t shoot the messenger.

HBO released a short statement confirming that the show will return next year, but revealed nothing further about when to expect the final season. During the summer, HBO programming president Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter:
Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take The shooting is complicated enough — on different continents, with all the technical aspects — and the special effects are a whole other production period that we’re trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this.
Production began in October and is expected to run through to August of this year. The final six episodes of the phenomenally successful show are said to be extra long, so that’s good at least. RIGHT? Please don’t kill me.
