As a child, I was a fan of Are You Afraid of the Dark? By that, I mean I’ve completely blocked out the terror of that traumatic show and have replaced it with feelings of dumb bliss when I know for a fact I watched it with one eye closed from behind the couch. Well, I won’t be able to hind from my past for much longer, as the screenwriter of the hit Stephen King adaptation IT is adapting Nickelodeon’s scariest show (not counting Ren and Stimpy) for the big screen.

That’s right, Gary Dauberman is taking on the show. Each episode began with a meeting of ‘The Midnight Society,’ a group of teenagers who would gather around a campfire and tell stories involving all manner of ghosts, witches, ghouls, goblins, and evil.
Dauberman, who could be getting his hands on an Oscar for his work on IT, told The Hollywood Reporter “the show is about the shared experience of telling stories – especially scary ones. We’re going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.”
Dauberman will also produce the film, which will be overseen by Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players.
Until then, I will be preparing to face my childhood demons. Please send prayers.
