Atlas Oscura recently wrote about these late 19th century calling cards and they might be just what you need to get the pages turning between you and the babe across the room.

 

The calling card Book Flirtation was found twelve years ago by Sheryl Jaeger, who owns Ecetables rare book store in Connecticut. She bought it at auction and has kept her eyes open for other “flirtation cards” at estate sales ever since.

Calling cards are an antiquated phenomenon that should be revived the same way records have been brought back from the dead. Calling cards are essentially like hallmark cards, except with many occasions in mind that are more day by day than birthdays or graduations. Calling cards would be sent to say “I think you are irresistable” or to say “I stopped by to visit and you were away”.

 

So the next time you see someone drop a book on the floor, perhaps it time to buy them your favorite read and start things the right way.
