HBO Officially Orders Pilot of ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel

DON’T MISS YOUR CHANCE TO ATTEND THRILLERFEST AND MEET GEORGE RR MARTIN

If you’ve been absolutely dreading the conclusion of the final season of Game of Thrones, then you’re in for a treat. HBO just announced that they have ordered a pilot of a prequel series that will be written by Jane Goldman!

Goldman’s prequel script is one of the five prequels currently in works. HBO hasn’t guaranteed that all of these prequels will see full seasons ordered but it looks like this one is headed that way.

According to HBO, Goldman’s script will take place thousands of years before the modern-day Game of Thrones setting and will explore the descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest period.

HBO added:

“And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know… “From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

Goldman has extensive experience working on huge Hollywood scripts like X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service (and its sequel), and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children to name a few. While she has worked as an executive producer on a handful of television programs, the upcoming prequel to Game of Thrones will be her first major television script.

Previous reports suggest HBO may spend over $50m on each season of these new shows.
