Sorry to disappoint all the impatient fans but there will be no spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones, mainly because the network hired a drone killer.
Entertainment Weekly reports that
The HBO production employed a “drone killer” to keep away snooping aerial cameras.” This past sunday at the New York City Comic Con, star Sophie Turner said “If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool,” she said. “It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men.
A “drone killer” is officially Counter-UAS technology that disables a drone from the sky to the ground. It’s usually used by police in emergency situations. The drone killer looks like a shotgun. Los Angeles Times states “it can be aimed like a rifle or a shotgun at a drone in the air. The 30-degree field of its beam and its range of almost half a mile make the target hard to miss.”
Production takes place in Northern Ireland and the network had made no fly zone warning signs, so that meant nothing could fly across the outdoor set! No planes, no drones, no helicopters could fly over where the show is being filmed!
HBO has taken extreme measures to prevent information from getting out, not only with images but also scripts! Scripts are destroyed after each shooting day.
