Accio mask! An iconic moment from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has been parodied to feature Harry Potter wearing a face mask as a part of a Covid-19 PSA.
WarnerMedia, the Ad Council, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have teamed up for the “Mask Up” campaign with the aim of encouraging audiences to wear a mask through the use of classic characters from WarnerMedia films. No matter the circumstances, characters in the ad are seen wearing masks including Harry Potter dueling with Voldemort, Pennywise terrorizing children while wearing a smiling clown mask, and Wonder Woman saving the day. The 30-second spot also features altered iconic scenes from The Matrix, The Hobbit, and Casablanca.
“WarnerMedia is proud to help educate and inform our fans about the importance of mask wearing during this pandemic,” says Dennis Williams, WarnerMedia’s senior VP of corporate social responsibility. He continues by commenting, “We hope that by seeing some of our favorite heroes and characters masked up, our fans will follow suit.”
Lisa Sherman, the president and chief executive officer of the Ad Council, expresses a similar sentiment. “We are so grateful to the WarnerMedia team for their commitment to educating Americans on the importance of wearing a face mask to protect themselves and their families from Covid-19,” says Sherman. “We know that face masks continue to be one of the most effective ways we can protect ourselves against the virus and we’re truly grateful to Warner for lending their talent and iconic films to support this critical message.”
