Harry Melling, best known for playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter movies and Harry Beltik in The Queen’s Gambit, will play a young Edgar Allan Poe in upcoming movie, The Pale Blue Eye. The Netflix film is an adaptation of Louis Bayard’s novel of the same name. Scott Cooper (Hostiles) will write and direct the movie, according to Vulture.
According to Deadline, Cooper has been trying to get The Pale Blue Eye produced for over a decade. Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy) will star alongside Melling as a detective with the responsibility of solving a number of murders which occurred at the West Point Military Academy in 1830. The detective partners with a young Poe (Melling), who is yet to become one of the most famous gothic, horror writers of all time. The Pale Blue Eye will be produced by Cross Creek Pictures.
Since appearing in the Harry Potter films, Melling has appeared in a number of movies and television shows. Recently, he starred as Roy in The Devil All the Time, which also featured Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. He also played Sysselman in His Dark Materials. His upcoming film, The Tragedy of Macbeth, will debut later this year, also starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.
