Roll out the red carpet, because tonight is the night that the Man Group will announce the winner of its annual Man Booker Prize. Industry experts always have an opinion about who the winner will be each year, and we now know their pick: Hanya Yanagihara, author of A Little Life.
The 736-page novel, which deals with four Massachusetts college graduates who move to New York, has garnered critical acclaim across the globe. Published by Doubleday in the US and Picador in the UK, A Little Life found a significant following through digital word of mouth on Twitter.
Unsurprisingly, bookmakers William Hill and Coral have now announced they believe Yanagihara has the highest chances of taking home the Man Booker. Both have given the author odds of 6/4. Betting site Ladbrokes has also chimed in, giving the same odds for Yanagihara’s success.
Judges on the panel this year include authors John Burnside, Frances Osborne, and Michael Wood, as well as broadcaster Ellah Allfrey and literary editor Sam Leith. Their combined tastes and knowledge of the field will surely play into the results, and it will be exciting to see if frontrunner Yanagihara lines up with their style.
