‘Girlboss’ Fired by Netflix

Following in the footsteps of one-season wonders like Sense8 and The Get Down, Girlboss has reportedly been cancelled by Netflix.

The series, which follows the exploits of a broke, sharp-tonged young woman in her quest to fashion business success, was broadly based of Sophia Amoruso’s best-selling memoir #Girlboss, which documents the growth of her company Nasty Gal from humble origins in a San Francisco art school lobby to a $100 million online fashion institution. Britt Robertson, best known for her roles in The Longest Ride and Tomorrowland, starred as Sophia Marlowe, a young woman based off Amoruso; though her performance was praised, some criticized the selfish Sophia as too unlikeable a protagonist.

Amoruso, for her part, took the news surprisingly well. “While I’m proud of the work we did, I’m looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out” she stated in a now-deleted Instagram post.
