On June 14th, NetflixFilm released the first images from the set of Persuasion via Twitter. The film is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel of the same name. The stars of the film, Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, How to be Single), Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, Last Christmas), and Cosmo Jarvis (Peaky Blinders, The Evening Hour) were shown wearing gorgeous period costumes.

According to Collider, Persuasion was the last novel Austen published before she died. The story follows twenty-seven-year-old Anne Elliot (Johnson), an unmarried woman who reconnects with her former lover, Captain Frederick Wentworth (Jarvis), seven years after she was pushed to break off their engagement by her family and friends. The reunion between the two former lovers sparks the question: will Anne and Frederick use this opportunity for a second chance at romance? Golding stars as Anne’s cousin, Mr. Elliot.

Other stars appearing in Persuasion include Richard E. Grant, Suki Waterhouse, and Nikki Amuka-Bird. Carrie Cracknell will direct the film. Although Persuasion will be Cracknell’s first feature film, she is known for her theatre work including Sea Wall/A Life (2019), Julie (2018), and Macbeth (2015).

Persuasion is set to release on Netflix in 2022.
